Pocketbook Brigade

"All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." — Edmund Burke

"Speak up, speak out, get in the way, get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America." — John Lewis, Georgia Congressional Representative

Who We Are

Pocketbook Brigade is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Tucker, Georgia. We believe that everyday people have more economic and civic power than they realize — and that when we act together with intention, we can shape the kind of community, economy, and country we want to live in.

We have the power of our pocketbooks. When we spend our money with companies that reflect our values — companies that support diversity, equity, inclusion, fair wages, and community investment — we are making our values visible in the marketplace. When we seek out and support women-owned and minority-owned businesses, we are building the economy we want to see.

We are a nonprofit organization that encourages people to use their purchasing power and civic voice to support the values of dignity, fairness, and equal opportunity for all.

Our Five Areas of Focus

1. Civic and Consumer Education We educate community members about how their personal spending choices connect to local, state, and national outcomes. An informed community is an empowered one.

2. Civic Participation and Community Action We encourage people to speak up, show up, and participate in the civic life of their community — through voting, attending public meetings, contacting elected officials, and organizing with neighbors.

3. Dignity and Equal Treatment Under the Law Inspired by President Jimmy Carter's commitment to human rights, we believe in a bold and clear commitment that power should never serve as a cover to oppress or injure people. We support equal access to healthcare, legal protections, and opportunity for all people who call this country home.

4. Equal Treatment and Immigration We believe all inhabitants of the United States deserve to be treated equally under the law, with fair and equitable access to justice and opportunity. We support humane immigration policies in the tradition of leaders across the political spectrum who have recognized that our country is strengthened by people who seek to contribute to it.

5. Global Cooperation and Economic Interdependence In the spirit of trust but verify, we believe in maintaining strong, cooperative relationships with the nations of the world — recognizing that our economies, our security, and our futures are deeply connected.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to find the ways we can do the most good for the most people — by educating our community, strengthening our local economy, and encouraging every person to use their voice and their purchasing power with intention.

Pocketbook Brigade is open to all community members regardless of political affiliation, background, or belief. We are united by shared values, not divided by party lines.
